A regular family physician knows their patient’s health history and looks at the big picture–not just the problem the patient came in for today. In fact, research shows that having and 
seeing a regular family physician:
- Keeps patients healthier as they age.
- Helps patients live longer.
- Catches problems before they become serious
Patient attachment is an important foundation for the provision of quality care and creating a sustainable primary care system in Alberta. A new patient continuity video entitled “Why it is important to have a regular family doctor” has been shared with Primary Care Networks across Alberta. This video (which uses photos of PCN physicians) is a useful tool to increase patient awareness of the benefits of having a regular family physician and taking more responsibility for his/her health.
