The future of family medicine relies on our students. The ACFP works with dedicated physicians to help students learn more about Family Medicine as a career choice. ACFP is pleased to plan and present the following Student Initiatives:
Stop by the ACFP booth during Student Orientation Day to meet and learn what the ACFP can do for you.

Student Information Sessions at the University of Alberta
Once a year the ACFP organizes a student-family physician meet and greet luncheon or dinner. The event provides a great opportunity for students to meet and speak with practising family physicians. The informal setting is the perfect place for students to ask doctors the really tough questions. Keep an eye out for the email invitation to attend.
Clinical Skills Night at the University of Alberta
The ACFP hosted their inaugural clinical skills night for first- and second-year medical students at the University of Alberta on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Feedback for the session was overwhelmingly positive and the ACFP is aiming to make this an annual event.
Stations were set up in session rooms on the first floor of the Katz building. The sessions featured the following stations:
- Diabetes physical exam and diabetes random glucose testing (meters, test strips, and lancets provided),
- Prescription writing and hospital order writing skills,
- Suturing skills and wound care.
Our members have a long history of sharing their knowledge with keen students, like you. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity when you shadow a family doctor around. Learn what their day is really like and get a sense of how you can affect people’s lives. Program invitations are sent to incoming medical students in conjunction with the students’ acceptance packages for medical school.
Thank you to all the students and family physicians who participated in the 2015 Incoming Medical Student Shadowing Program. More than 70 students were able to experience a day in the life of a family physician.
2016 Shadowing Programs Dates
