AFPRN History
In the early 1970's, the Alberta Chapter
of the College of Family Physicians of
Canada developed a research mandate and
formed a research committee to encourage
and promote research in family medicine
throughout the province of Alberta.
During the 1980's, the Universities of
Alberta and Calgary committed to
furthering primary care research and
embarked on the process of forming a
primary care research unit (PCRU), and
in 1989, the infrastructure to support
primary care research in Alberta was
developed by the combining of the two
universities' research efforts via a
joint PCRU.
