The ACFP, in collaboration with the AMA
Section of General Practice and Rural
Medicine, sponsor a program in which
incoming medical students have the
opportunity to shadow family physicians
practicing in urban and rural settings
(for a 3-4 day period, during the week
before the formal start of classes. The
purpose of this program is to give these
beginning medical students an
opportunity to experience what it's like
to work in a front-line practice in the
community setting. The placements have
been held in a broad spectrum of
practice types and settings including
the inner city, women's health,
emergency, large and small practice
offices, and hospitals.
