What is MAINPRO?

MAINPRO (Maintenance of Proficiency) Program
The CFPC has been a leader in accrediting continuing medical education since 1954.  MAINPRO helps you organize and document your learning and gives you choice in selecting CPD activities best suited to your needs.

MAINPRO M1 credits and/or MAINPRO C credits

Total credits required in a 5-year cycle

MAINPRO M1 and MAINPRO C
In a 5-year cycle, a minimum of 125 MAINPRO M1 and/or MAINPRO C credits from pre-approved activities must be submitted.  Examples include:

Conferences, courses and workshops; hospital and clinical rounds; journal clubs

Advanced Life Support
8 MAINPRO C credits will be added for each ALS course to a maximum of 16 credits per 5-year cycle.  If additional ALS courses are taken during the 5-year cycle, the credit hours will be added as MAINPRO M1.

Academic Activities
A maximum of 75 credits may be claimed during a 5-year cycle.

Pearls™ Facilitator or a Pearls CE™
Pearls™ is an evidence-based practice reflection exercise.  3 MAINPRO C credits may be claimed for each exercise.  The Pearls package, including its submission form, is available by contacting the CFPC at 905-629-0900 #204 or pearls@cfpc.ca

Self Learning Program
Self Learning is a voluntary, internet-based, CFPC educational program that allows physicians to evaluate themselves on how well they are able to keep in touch with current issues in medical literature.  CFPC members who subscribe to the Self Learning program may claim up to 5 MAINPRO M1 credits for each completed issue (up to 30 MAINPRO M1 credits for each year in which they subscribe).  Please visit: Self Learning®

MAINPRO M2 credits
A maximum of up to 125 MAINPRO M2 credits can be submitted in a 5-year cycle.  CPD activities that do not meet the criteria for MAINPRO M1 or MAINPRO C programs and courses may be claimed. Examples include:

§         Conferences, courses and workshops, not accredited for MAINPRO M1 or MAINPRO C

§         International conferences

§         Teaching (undergraduate, postgraduate, or CME)

§         Presentations and speaking

§         Preparation of papers for publication

§         Self-learning activities

§         Reading (books, journals, monographs)

§         Audio and video tapes

§         CD-ROM and other computer-based programs
