Changes to CPD/CME Requirements for
Alberta Physicians
The College of Physicians & Surgeons of
Alberta (CPSA)
regulates the practice of medicine in
Alberta, and is responsible for
licensing physicians to practise in
Alberta. The CPSA has announced that by
December 2009, satisfactory evidence of
participation in continuous professional
development (CPD) will be a requirement
for licensure in Alberta.
This means that all Alberta physicians
are required to participate in either
the Mainpro program of the College of
Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
or the MOC program of the Royal College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
FAQ’s
I am a member of the CPFC, how will this
affect me?
As a member of the CFPC, and the
ACFP, you are among 20,500 family
physicians from across Canada who
already participate in the Mainpro
program. You will not have to make any
changes to the way you currently
accumulate and track your Mainpro
credits.
I am NOT a
member of the CFPC, how will this affect
me?
You can fulfill the CPSA’s licensing
requirements for CPD easily with the
CFPC’s Mainpro program. You can do this
by becoming a member of the CFPC, or by
joining the CFPC’s Mainpro program as a
non-member to track your CPD credits.
